Articulated geometry
Jointed boom sections allow the platform to rise above and then move beyond an obstruction. This can be valuable around structures, services and industrial equipment.
Telescopic geometry
A telescopic boom extends more directly. It can be useful where substantial outreach is required and the route from base to work point is relatively open.
Site space still matters
Neither option should be selected from reach figures alone. Base position, manoeuvring area, ground condition, access route and surrounding hazards all need consideration.
Describe the geometry, not just the machine name
If you are unsure which boom type you need, describe the standing position, work point and obstacles. That gives suppliers more useful information than guessing a category.
Map the boom path through the work area
For an articulated boom, identify the obstruction that must be cleared and the space available for the boom sections to move. For a telescopic boom, consider the direct line from the base to the work point. Nearby structure, services, plant and exclusion zones can affect either option even when the published reach appears sufficient.
Consider repositioning across the whole task
A machine that reaches one point may not be efficient for every position on the project. If the work covers several elevations or connection points, show the supplier the overall work area rather than one maximum dimension. This allows the operating envelope, base positions and site movements to be considered together instead of selecting from a single worst-case height.
